
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, mellow vocals and smooth contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River", a song she first performed on her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's acting career lasted for 35 years and began in 1944 with roles in films. The films featured roles for the lead female character in many westerns. Also, she starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However she continued to be an actor on the Emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) where she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
